AFCON U23 Q: THREE SHARKS MAKE THE CUT
After two days of training with a larger pack, national under-23 head coach Francis Kimanzi has finally named his 18 man emerging Stars squad for the continental assignment slated for mid this month.
James Mazembe retains his place in the team having traveled to Uzbekistan earlier in the year for the double legged friendly matches against Asian under 23 champions Uzbekistan. He is joined by the tall Sydney Lokale who has had a strong finish to our season scoring some crucial goals including the glancing header that marked the turnaround in our shield cup final encounter against Sofapaka. Goalkeeper Brian Bwire is our final inclusion, and he will be hoping for playing time in this stage after successfully providing a safe pair of hands for the national under -20 team earlier this year in the AFCON under 20 qualifiers.
Brian Juma and Sven Yidah who also traveled with the team to Uzbekistan earlier in the year did not make the list, the latter being out due to fitness issues as he is in the recovery process of his healed injury. Fidel Origa also misses out having being judged not fully fit after training for only a week after a long layoff, while Shaphan Oyugi will be hoping to impress in his next call up.
The team will face Mauritius in the first leg in Nairobi on Wednesday 14th November before traveling away for the return tie set for Sunday 18th November.
