ELIM FC 0- SHARKS 5: TITLE DEFENCE BEGINS IN STYLE

It was the third time we were visiting Bukhungu Stadium in two months but the first time we were playing in the Shield Cup as Champions. A cup fixture against a team in the lower tiers calls for a lot of focus as the smallest of errors can lead to an upset.

The coach made several changes to his starting line up giving a chance to several players who have not featured recently. Notable inclusions included Ian Taifa and Nicholas Omondi who were handed their senior debuts. The two were once part of our under 20 side with Nicholas moving to second tier side Kibera Black Stars before returning as a senior team player.

Elim proved to be a hard nut to crack, quashing all our attacks and the game seemed to be headed for half-time goalless until Henry Juma scored in the 39th minute from a tight angle after a sublime pass from Erick Kapaito.

Six minutes after the break Kapaito continued with his fine goal scoring form as he snatched the ball for the opponent’s last man and calmly beat the goalkeeper to give a two goal cushion. Henry Juma then grabbed his brace in the 68th minute after powering home from the edge of the penalty box from a James Mazembe cut-back.

Mazembe’s pace down the left hand side continue giving the hosts all sorts of problems and they succumbed to pressure bringing down the speedy winger in the box to earn us a penalty in the 75th minute which was converted by Sydney Lokale

.

Debutant Nicholas Omondi completed the rout, slotting home from close range to seal a wonderful display from the lads.
