FKFPL: Nzoia too strong for the Sharks

The Sharks suffered their third loss of the season on Wednesday, going down 3-1 to table toppers Nzoia Sugar at the Utalii grounds in round 15 of the FKF Premier League.

Keith Imbali netted the game’s first inside 10 minutes but a quick start to the second half by the visitors turned the game on its head with Joseph Mwangi scoring twice in the space of two minutes before a Timothy Ekhavi own goal, with 15 minutes to go, secured the points for the Millers.

The result leaves us in 12th place with 16 points with a record of three wins and seven draws from our 13 matches played.

A neat one-two move between Matthew Kibiwott and Julius Masaba on the right wing, allowed the former to create space and whip in a cross into the area that found Imbali unmarked. The midfielder took two touches before rifling the ball into the bottom left corner to open the scoring.

The former Coast Stima player is having a breakout season in front of goal for the team and has now found the back of the net twice.

No clear-cut chances would come on either end of the pitch allowing the half to end with the lads ahead.

We started the second half the better of the two teams but against the run of play conceded the equalizer in the 49th minute when Mwangi racing through to a lofted pass from midfield, lobbed the ball over John Otieno.

Two minutes later, the forward would get in behind the back four and slot the ball past an onrushing Otieno.

Nzoia would make sure of the win thanks to an unfortunate own goal by Ekhavi in the 74th minute. The defender raced to clear a cross into the area by Kevin Maliachi but connected with his sheen, sending the ball over Otieno.

Attention now turns to next Wednesday’s league clash with Mathare United after the opening round of the FKF Cup, set for this weekend, was postponed.
