
LEAGUE AWARDS: KAPAITO RUNS THE SHOW
The 2018 Kenyan Premier League awarding ceremony was held yesterday at the Kenya School of Government conference centre. Erick Kapaito entered the arena dressed in well fitted black suited and a bow tie in the company of team manager Dick Francis.
Having been assured of the golden boot, the striker waited pensively on the verdict of the three other categories that he had been nominated for; New Player of the Year, Fair Play player of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the Year.
His first award came in the fair Play category where he finished as runners up having played the entire season without a single booking. He then went on to to called to the podium for the first time as he was awarded with the league New Player of the Year. Minutes later he was at the podium again to receive his golden boot after scoring 16 goals which included two hat-tricks.
The two awards gave him a head start in the MVP race with his three closest competitors being the defender of the year Felly Mulumba, Midfielder of the year Cliff Nyakeya and Goalkeeper of the year Farouk Shikalo. Kapaito was awarded the grand prize which came with a prize money of One Million Shillings.
The player was gracious in his achievement stating the following,
“I am glad to be standing here today with these awards. I would like to thank my coach, my teammates, my family, my lovely girlfriend Nancy and above all God the almighty for making this happen. I wouldn’t have made it without your support and prayers. This opens a new chapter in my life and I look forward to greater things.”
