OYEMBA JOINS KENYA AFCON 2019 CAMP

Goalkeeper John Oyemba has today landed in Paris, France to join the Kenya national team camp in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to kick off on June 21st 2019.

He is among the final three goalkeepers to make the cut of Harambee Stars French tactician Sebastian Migne who has touted him as the future Kenya 1. His inclusion comes after stellar performances in the league where he has 33% clean sheet rate in his three seasons. In 2017 he topped the chats with 16 clean sheets in 28 games, and then followed it up with 8 in 19 games the following season before suffering an injury set back. This transitional season he recovered from injury to keep 6 clean sheets in 18 matches.

He thus stands at 30 clean sheets in 65 matches and one can only imagine what it would have been had it not been for the long layoff. However, his resilience to comeback and fight for a place in the team must be lauded and is a true testament of the Sharks spirit.

He will be looking to earn his first cap in the two friendly matches’ line up against Madagascar and DRC Congo and perhaps even one of the matches at the continental showpiece.

For now, all we can do here at Sharks is to wish him and the entire Harambee Stars all the best at the AFCON 2019.
