OYEMBA: WE HAVE TO KEEP OUR CONCENTRATION

Ahead of the second match of the league against AFC Leopards, goalkeeper John Oyemba has called on the boys to keep their concentration throughout the match. The Kenyan international says the players are confident of getting a positive result which he believes can be achieved only if concentration is at 100%.

Here are excerpts from his interview:

On drawing on Match day 1

We are all unhappy with that result. We had done well to come from a goal down and take the lead but somehow, in the last few minutes of the game we allowed them to come back and their late pressure got them a penalty. We however put that behind us and now we are fully focused on the next game.

On the international break

It has given us the time to re-organize and evaluate ourselves. It also has given some of our player’s important experience since we learn a lot from playing international football. We want to show the results of these on the pitch, where it matters the most.

On being unbeaten against AFC Leopards

We have a good record against them but we know records do not count when you get to the pitch. What matters is that we play according to the coach’s instructions and give our very best. We have to fight each and every minute of play.

On the deciding factors when they face Leopards

This fixture has always been a tricky one. You look at two of the games that ended in draws and you see that they are games we could have won. We have conceded in the 1st minute of play, then we also have conceded on the last minute of play and we have also scored with the last kick of the match against Leopards. We have also conceded two penalties against them.

This shows that our concentration must be at 100% this weekend because when we play Leopards, it is always a game of fine margins. If you blink for a second you are punished. So we just got to concentrate from start to finish and hopefully, we will get a good result.
