PATRICK OTIENO DELIGHTS ON SCORING ON HIS DEBUT

Speedy winger Patrick Otieno is having a dream start to his life as a Sharks player. He scored in his League debut for the club, becoming only the fourth player to do so.

We caught up with him to speak about his match day performance and he had a lot to say.

How it feels to score on his Sharks league debut

“I am very happy that I have got the goal in my first league match. It was a very happy moment for me. It is also my first time to score with a header since I started playing football.

I however would have been happier if we won the game. The result at the end took away a part of my joy in opening my goal account for Sharks.”

On how many goals he targets this season

I always focus on improving as a player. Last season I had four goals in twenty four appearances so I want to make it better. I have set a personal target of ten league goals and I am confident I will reach it.

On being handed a start in his first league match

Well, it makes me happy to know the coach believes in me. It gives me more confidence when I walk into the pitch. It is not easy to join a new club and to start in the first competitive match.

I am happy that I repaid the coach trust in me by scoring a goal. Now I want to keep working hard to keep my place in the first team. There is huge competition for places in the team and only good performances can give me the chance to continue playing week in week out.

On how he has settled in since joining

It has been a good reception from my teammates and the technical bench. Before I came here, the coach called me and talked to me on how he wants me to join the project here and I was convinced that this is the place I have to be as a player. So I have settled in very fast and I believe the more we get to know each other the better I will perform. This is one big family and we can achieve a lot together.
