PATRICK OTIENO JOINS THE LIST OF LEAGUE DEBUT SCORERS
When he signed Patrick Otieno, the coach stated that he wanted to have more goal scoring players other than depending too much on his strikers. In Patrick, he said that he saw a goal scoring winner if well nurtured.
Well, the speedy winger is on course to prove the coach right if his performance against Western Stima is anything to go by. With his goal, he joins the elite list of players who have scored in their league debut for the Sharks.
He is the fourth player to score on his Sharks league debut and only the second Kenyan to do so. We take a look at the others who did the same.
His debut goal was in the first Sharks top flight game in history which makes it special as he not only scored in his Sharks league debut but he also goes down as the first goal scorer for the club in the league. He did this after coming off the bench in that match. Though his goal was a mere consolation as we lost 3-1 that day, it is a historic one and it will keep the Ugandan in the club history until thy kingdom come. This was in March 2017 against Gor Mahia.
After starting being benched on match day 1 of the 2018 season, the striker was given his debut against Vihiga United on match day 2 and he made no mistake, registering his first goal for the club; a first of many. This was not only his Sharks debut, but also his Kenyan Premier League debut as we had signed him from Talanta FC which plays in the second tier. He was the first Kenyan to score on his league debut for us.
The Ugandan had just joined us in the mid season of 2018 from Sony Sugar FC when the coach handed him his debut against Nzoia Sugar at the Camp Toyoyo grounds. He scored one of the goals as we won 2-1 against Nzoia Sugar after coming off the bench.
Patrick will now have to build on this and hopefully go on to have a stellar season.
