Preparations for the historic match between English Premier League based side Everton FC and hosts Kariobangi Sharks have officially began today. All the stakeholders involved in planning the match convened for a press brief to inform as well as rally the fans for the July 7th 2019 fixture.

Gaming industry giants SportPesa who are the official sponsors, The National Government of Kenya, The Nairobi City County Government, Football Kenya Federation and Kariobangi Sharks FC were all present as the ball was sent rolling.

Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ambassador Amina Mohamed was full of praise to the sponsors as well as the Sharks team for their exploits in the SportPesa Cup competition held in Dar es Salaam early this year:

“I want to say a big thank you to SportPesa through their CEO who is with us here today. When it comes to supporting the game, you have always been available at short notice. Secondly I wish to congratulate Kariobangi Sharks once again for winning this year’s competition and to also wish you the best in the historic match.”

Football Kenya Federation was also grateful to the sponsors for providing what he termed as the best corporate support to the game:

“Since we came into office three years ago, no one has put in money into the football of this country like SportPesa. You have been a true partner and bringing a Premier League side here on home soil is evidence of your commitment to improving the game”, said the federation President Nick Mwendwa.

For the CEO of SportPesa Captain Ronald Karauri, the game presents a wonderful opportunity for showcasing the country’s talent as well as promoting Kenya as a tourist destination:

“We want to give the belief to our youngsters that there are no limits to your dreams. As long as you work hard, your talent will get you to heights that you have never imagined before. We also want to promote Nairobi and Kenya in general as a sports tourism destination which we believe will be of great help to all of us. I know football is a game of great stories and I am looking forward for an upset.”

Club Chairman Mr. Robert Maoga emphasized the importance of the boys believing in themselves and enjoying the moment:

“We want the boys to take this great opportunity presented by SportPesa with ease and confidence as well. They should believe in themselves. We shall give Kenyans a good show and I ask the fans to turn up in their numbers.”

The exhibition match will be played at The Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on the 7th of June in what shall be the opening match of the 2019/20 pre-season campaign for both teams.
